Courtney Coyote x Blaize Culture - Lips and Hips
CHILL SESH WITH OUR FOUNDER
What is the inspiration behind Lips and Hips?
A BMX video by my homies, Dylan Wright, Tyler Shaw, and Courtney Bruce, inspired Lips and Hips. The video is a compilation of amazing tricks, but it was the graphics by Courtney that caught my eye. The animated lips and graphics she created for the video are sick. I immediately wanted to take the idea further and collaborate on a design for Blaize Culture.
Those who don’t know the BMX world as well, see it as a cool design. But to us crazies, lips are the tops of jumps and hips are where two-quarter pipes meet or simply two jumps that don’t line up. To land a hip, you move sideways in the middle of the jump. The whole design and idea is such a cool nod to our culture. I love it.
Why Courtney Coyote?
Courtney Bruce is a graphic designer based in the DFW area. I know her through a member of our BMX crew, Tyler Shaw, here at Blaize Culture. She’s insanely talented and just a cool, genuine person. That’s so important in this crazy world. She’s been a pleasure to work with.
What has the reaction been like around the collab?
The Lips and Hips design has taken off. It’s such a brilliant design, I’m not surprised. I recently took the tee to Patty Woods out at the Sixo Memorial Jam and the design sold out in the first two hours. Just being able to sponsor the event was enough, but to do so well on the merchandise side is a dream. Lips and Hips will come on the road with us from now on.
